Newspeak of the 2020’s: Reversing the Coin.

Post by S-19 »

Newspeak: propagandistic language that is characterized by euphemism, circumlocution, and the inversion of customary meanings. The term was coined by George Orwell in his novel Nineteen Eighty-four (1949).

In the last few months I’ve noticed the use of some new neologisms (well, they would be new, wouldn’t they :P ) for our dystopian times. A few examples:

Journaliars (John Waters uses this term but I don’t know if he coined it or not)

Hospikills (I’ve heard Kate Shemirani say this in a video, but again I don’t know if it’s her ‘coinage’ or not)

Vaccidents. This neologism speaks for itself and initially inspired this train of thought. We’re up against a mainstream narrative which uses its own hackneyed slogans (e.g. ‘trust the science’ ), so why not coin and use our own new terms which express where we’re coming from in creative ways.

I was pondering this topic over a coffee yesterday and thought that I came up with a good one:

Mocktors: Doctors who go along with the covid mainstream narrative unquestioningly, insisting on the wearing of face nappies, recommending fake vaccinations, and generally selling out their Hippocratic Oath in these lucrative (for many of them :x ) times.

I expected that someone would have already come up with this term and did a search earlier tonight, when I came across the article below:

https://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/views/unca ... -mocktors/

Turns out that these terms the article deals with (including the term in question) have been in use for quite some time, only in a different context. So it would seem that the term ‘mocktor’ refers to a medic acting as a doctor in some capacity while not being a fully-fledged M.D. And that’s that.

Unless…

What if this and similar terms were appropriated by us, taking control of language newspeak-style, rather than always been on the defensive against it? Redefine terms and phrases for our purposes?

As the vast majority of ‘Doctors’ would seem to be colluding with this fake ‘covidity’ narrative I’ve no problem with using the term ‘mocktor’ as (re)defined above. I also like the play on language which this entails, using the word ‘mock’ in the neologism to fairly and accurately mock those 'Doctors' who are effectively mocking us while putting our health at risk.

 Mock the mocking ‘Doctors’ by using the term ‘mocktors’.
(Ok, so it’s not my neologism but that sure is a good tongue-twister! :D )

In conclusion, I’m wondering what you guys think of the use of the term ‘mocktors’ as stated above, and more generally of the concept using using such terms in our struggle, in effect weaponising language to combat its weaponisation against us.

Last but by no means least, feel free to post any such terms you’ve come across or coined yourself, it would be interesting to have a collection of these terms.

Mocktor is new to me and I like the definition as you stated.

I liked the term James Evan Pilato came up with: instead of referring to himself as a “Conspiracy theorist”, he’s a “Spoiler Alertist”.

Love it!

Great idea. I have been doing that a bit with:

Presstitutes: the media peeps - and, you are so right, because when you use those words, people know EXACTLY what you mean....lololol

Mocktor is good for those types of Doctors - I try to remind the good ones and speak generally about the "noble profession of Medicine" to remind people that good Doctors should have more freedom. 500 doctors here in Oz are starting their own AMA cause they refuse to be Mocktors :cowboy: <3

Pin cushion: a term to refer to multi-waxxed peeps (used to be where Grandma kept her needles and pins safe).....as in "No...actually because I'm not a pin cushion" or "It's tricky because one of my children is a pin cushion".

More please....lololol

Ooh, some really good takes there AQ    I especially like your focus on their usage ("No...actually because I'm not a pin cushion" :!: ). Presstitutes seems to pack more of a proverbial punch that journaliars, I'm already looking forward to using it:

Norm: Did you read that article in the 'Times' yesterday about 'Long Covid'? ( :x )

Me: No, I don't bother reading fiction from those pressitutes. ( 0:) )

Also it's a good point you make about the "noble profession of Medicine" and that there are good Doctors out there still. Alas, the noble profession has become more ignoble in recent times
