Site feature request

Post by BananaMulcher »

In this new censorship era in which video hosts are taking down content and DMCA abuse, it is only by grace and trust that we have remaining platforms like Bitchute in this fight. But as with any other service, it is at constant risk of disappearing one day and taking entire libraries of content along with it.

That said, I would like to request/propose thecrowhouse.com use a site RSS feed so that there is a self hosted means of checking content directly in the event of alternative platforms being suppressed. RSS is an old, established, open standard that has proven itself and is technically simple to implement. Or if it is already present under some non-standard URL please let me know.

Bitchute is 5 eyes.
My experience over several years has been censorship. Hard and soft (like videos that would not play or in endless posting) .
That along with the fact that they (for comments) use Disscus ting was it for me. Don't use it any more.

I agree for the most part. Bitchute web interface does not even function unless you allow your system to connect to cloudflare, so I avoid it as much as possible (if anyone knows a way to browse bitchute listings outside of the web UI, please share). The best solutions would be self hosted over one's own infrastructure either through an established tool like peertube or directly serving the video files, although they might need to be small depending on your bandwidth.

A web server delivering a basic HTML page can easily serve embedded videos like:

Code: Select all

<video src="video_file.mp4" width="640" height="480" controls></video>

Additional feature request: embedded audio and video content. I'm not sure if this version of pbpBB has options or extensions for it, but I've seen other classic forums which allow video and audio upload in the same way that images can currently be added.

Hiya

Videos can be embedded from most sites but if you mean the ability to be able to upload audio and video then it would cost too much extra in SSD space to host the files on our server. We have plenty of bandwidth but limited by memory and the providers always charge a premium for that.

If i misunderstand your question then let us know and i will try to assist further. ;)

You got it exactly. I suppose reasonable limits could be placed on file size. I personally cut down any clips I share into their relevant portion.

We will give it some thought and i will have a look at server resources and see if it is at all viable. :)

If it's just for videos, you can actually subscribe to RSS feeds on Odysee and DollarVigilante.tv (PeerTube).
https://odysee.com/$/rss/@thecrowhouse:2
https://dollarvigilante.tv/feeds/videos ... annelId=13

Do note that both Odysee and DollarVigilante.tv (and Bitchute for that matter) are using The Great Cloud Wall (aka Cloudflare), which is a major spyware/Google 2.0/NSA honeypot.
In that case you can choose one of the Librarian instances for Odysee or PeerTube instances that are following dv.tv (only 8 instances are following dv.tv at the moment though) for PeerTube.

For those of us in eastern Asia and probably Australia and New Zealand as well, I can recommend these feeds:
https://odysee.076.ne.jp/@thecrowhouse:2/rss (for Odysee)
https://video.076.ne.jp/feeds/videos.xm ... annelId=14 (for PeerTube)

I believe Europeans have far more options in both cases.

I am not on any of the centralized (controlled opposition) SNS platforms.
