I have this book, it's a bit hard going but once you get the gist you realize that the earth is continuous, north as well as South.

I didn't know the author of this book had been jailed, typical, the Masons were even at then.

The other side of Antarctica was unexplored at that time. This is what Byrd was refering to. And taking ice shelves into account, the area of it is practically the same as the continental United States.
