What are your favorite escapist activities?

Post by BananaMulcher »

I used to be able to escape into the depths of video games. But not so since a few years ago. Lately I'm diving into books, but not for escapism. History books. Biographies. Geopolitical pieces. It seems I can't pull myself out of the real world atm.

I would advise you to try something that has intrinsic value like camping, fishing, woodworking.

Since moving to Mexico, I am busy from the time I wake up, until I go to bed at night.

There's just always a lot to do, and I'm learning new things and a little bit of Spanish as I go.

Heck, just practice building a fire. If you can do that, try with some damp wood.
It can be hard even with alcohol.

Animals. The goats, the dogs, cats, birds....

They've become my best friends.

I'm talking about the things we do in between bouts of actual work. You must be going 100% of the time if that's true!

I've got a LONG way to go on Spanish, but I do the best I can.
I was in a restaurant the other day, and they were so packed, they started locking the door after we came in. They let a few people in after, then said no more. I was with my friend, and we had to share a table with a couple of kind strangers. I understood very little of the conversation, but when he put started to share some pictures, mainly of his son driving a big tractor...I could understand...he was a proud father.
I noticed he waited to eat when they brought his friends plate too,...which didn't take too long.
When they brought my friends food, he ate. I didn't get my food for a while later...I would have encouraged him to eat it while it was hot anyway.
But the fellow at the table asked me "why?" Por Que?
I just said, "Mucho trabajo", there's a lot of work.
To top it off, the food I ordered wasn't very good...there was like deep fried breaded chicken, not so much chicken, lots of the breading and some rice...no beans. I could tell the people were doing their best, but my food sucked except for the rice.
I didn't say anything, and ate some and saved some for the doggies.
Anyway, long story short...when I went to pay, the fellow and his amigo left already.
And the waitress said that the other guy we shared the table with, paid for our food.

You better share those marionettes! ;-)
