8 times unicorns were mentioned in the Bible

https://www.ldsliving.com/8-times-unico ... le/s/80758
"Modern readers have trouble with the Bible’s unicorns because we forget that a single-horned feature is not uncommon on God’s menu for animal design (consider the rhinoceros and narwhal)," they explain, before asserting that "the absence of a unicorn in the modern world should not cause us to doubt its past existence." After all, they say, the extinction of the dodo bird doesn't mean it never existed. They also note that "eighteenth-century reports from southern Africa described rock drawings and eyewitness accounts of fierce, single-horned, equine-like animals."

So there you have it. Sadly, most scholars agree that the unicorns in question probably weren't real unicorns, but another, more familiar animal. After all, no scientific finding or archeological discovery to date has substantiated the existence of such a creature. But an absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, so for many out there, the hope of the unicorn can still remain.

Legend

Post by Robo »

A horn sticks out from the middle of its forehead with astonishing splendour to the distance of four feet, so sharp that whatever it charges is easily perforated by it. Not a single one has ever come alive into the hands of man, and, although it is possible to kill them, it is not possible to capture them.

Unicornis the unicorn, which is also called Rhinoceros by the Greeks, is of the following nature. He is a very small animal like a kid, excessively swift, with one horn in the middle of his forehead, and no hunter can catch him. But he can be trapped by the following stratagem. A virgin girl is led to where he lurks, and there she is sent off by herself into the wood. He soon leaps into her lap when he sees her, and embraces her, and hence gets caught.”

The Death of the Unicorn

In the movie, the same Unicorn scene is shown twice, but from a different angle:

Apocalypse Now

Apocalypse Now (1979, Francis Ford Coppola)

Ride of the Valkyries

Music: Richard Wagner (from the Ring Cycle)
Valkyrie, also spelled Walkyrie, Old Norse Valkyrja (“Chooser of the Slain”), in Norse mythology, any of a group of maidens who served the god Odin (Wotan) and were sent by him to the battlefields to choose the slain who were worthy of a place in Valhalla.

These foreboders of war rode to the battlefield on horses, wearing helmets and shields; in some accounts, they flew through the air and sea. Some Valkyries had the power to cause the death of the warriors they did not favour; others, especially heroine Valkyries, guarded the lives and ships of those dear to them. Old Norse literature made references to purely supernatural Valkyries and also to human Valkyries with certain supernatural powers. Both types of beings were associated with fairness, brightness, and gold, as well as bloodshed.

Fargo (1996, Joel Coen)

Jerry Lundegaard enters a bar to make a deal with a couple strangers. He wants his wife to be kidnapped. The two strangers find the plan to be senseless and unethical, and appear hesitant to get involved. After skittishly explaining and justifying his motives, Jerry hardly achieves getting them onboard, but the plan's underway.
