I always found the old school concept of UFOs to be a beautiful hypothetical design. For a vessel that transits where there is no up, down, left or right, a circle is nearly optimal. The flattened saucer contour makes it more ideal than a plain sphere for slipping through fluids. Energy weapons mounted on either side of the "sauce pan" enjoy perfect uninterrupted firing arcs.
